Welcome to the China IP Insider! To begin with: Who is this blog for? And, why should it interest you?
To answer the first, our posts will seek to support anyone who has a business in China or wishes to start one there, particularly European Union Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). If you have an interest in business in China, have insights into how a business can best operate there or need practical observations from those that do, this blog is for you.
As for the second question, our posts will come from a variety of experienced contributors, from Intellectual Property (IP) experts and lawyers, business owners, the networks that support them, and the China IPR SME Helpdesk project team members – people whose daily professional lives incorporate building businesses in China. The posts will aim not dryly document developments to China’s legislation but instead provide a commentary for how such changes will likely affect European businesses and what you should do in response to them; which actions are going to bring you the most benefits and which are going to damage your prospects.
China IP Insider will also give SMEs the opportunity to voice their opinions and experiences of operating in China; some will be tales of caution or of learning the hard-way, others will be (modest) boasts of success- we will aim to interest and intrigue! And if we’re not interesting or intriguing you, or our commentaries are contrary to your experiences, send us your contributions!
This blog is brought to you by the China IPR SME Helpdesk, a project co-funded by the European Commission. The project was established in 2008, and has since then provided European SMEs with practical front-line advice for protecting their business and IPR in China. This blog will expand points made in our guides and E-Learning Modules, highlight salient questions asked and answered at our events and generally look to illustrate the IPR landscape in China for those who do not necessarily have a background in Chinese law.
To put it simply, we aim to educate and possibly even entertain you – we believe our posts will include at least a handy tips and at best crucial information that will hopefully add to your business and IPR strategy in China (Don’t have one?!!? …keep reading…).
WELCOME!
