China’s taste for Western wine has taken-off dramatically in the last decade, with EU wine exports to China worth over 700 million Euros in 2012 – more than ten times the export value of 2006. Unfortunately, with the rise in demand for foreign wine there has also been an unprecedented surge in counterfeits.

The Dutch SME Wuvio is a market leader in producing chemicals to combat dust for construction sites, energy producers, mining and dry bulk companies. Wuvio works with unique solutions, using innovative mixtures of chemicals, or chemical compounds, developed in-house. The company had been active in Europe for 11 years when they decided it was time to make the move to China. As unique solutions for industrial processes combined with innovative chemical compounds require a structured approach to IPR, we spoke with Rob te Braake, Wuvio representative in China to share his experiences and give some practical tips for any business looking to protect this kind of intellectual property portfolio.
The China IPR SME Helpdesk launched the Serious Game on Thursday, 22 May at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beijing. There were games to be played, prizes to be won and networks to be made. The name of the game was simple. Each person attending played in a team of four and each team had one hour to earn as much profit as possible – the team that earned the most amount of money would win a prize (hello, chocolates and legal vouchers!).
