Our final article for the Vietnam series covers how SMEs can work with Vietnamese authorities to use customs controls as an effective tool against infringement.
Customs can provide a last line of defence against infringement, stopping existing infringing goods from leaving or entering a country. This brief article gives an overview of Vietnam’s existing customs controls and gives some advice on how SMEs can work with the authorities to prevent the spread of infringing goods.

Cecile manages a small European enterprise designing state of the art, environmentally friendly and beautifully designed public sanitation solutions. This month, we had a chance to discuss the company’s future plans and IP protection strategy with her.
Cecile first heard about the China IPR SME Helpdesk and its services when she attended one of our events during the 2014 Mission for Growth in Chengdu, China. She was interested to hear how to protect her company’s brand and designs in the Chinese market at this initial stage of her company’s internationalisation.

René shares with us the results of the recent VDMA product piracy study, along with some useful tips for SMEs working in the mechanical engineering sector for avoiding potential product piracy, or reacting to existing infringements.
The VDMA is one of the largest industrial associations in Europe and represents over 3,100 member companies in the engineering industry. The VDMA covers the entire engineering sector: everything from component manufacturers, machine builders, plant erectors, system suppliers and system integrators through to service providers. René Bernard up the Service and Consulting Company of VDMA China in Beijing and has had extensive experience supporting businesses in their development within the PRC.
